I have to say the discussion of the economy was just a front for more Obama-fawning. The questions were all “what will the messiah do to fix the US economy, and then we can copy”. Pathetic.
There was no discussion of the expenses row at all. For me that u-turn is one of the most significant political developments for years. A parliament which actually stands up to the over-mighty government? Unheard of under New Labour. Not a peep from Kirsty Wark.
I don’t always expect to agree with Wark’s less-than-independent viewpoint, but I at expect at least a mention that her idol has had to back down on an incredibly important point. She preferred to take the mickey out of Daniel Kawczynski instead.
Won’t one of the commercial channels create a more rigorous competitor? Please?

“I made sure I got home last night in time to watch Newsnight.” – have you started pulling the sorts of hours I used to do Blue Eyes?
No chance – I was in the pub!
“She preferred to take the mickey out of Daniel Kawczynski instead.”
To be fair, he thoroughly deserves it…
Perhaps having a few pints down the pub is the best way to get through Newsnight these days.
I gave up on it a long time ago.
His “outrage” does seem a little contrived. Police officer asks him for a letter, he hands it over, feels embarrassed.
Yet the night before, at the height of the Messiah’s coronation, they had a pretty good discussion on the banks. You never know with Newsnight. Guess we should look at the producer and editor at the end of each show, see if there is a pattern.
everyone is mystified at the moment with obama…he has 100 days in office to make change before it becomes impossible so don’t expect much for a little bit anyways…
I haven’t watched the news or any current affairs television at all in 2009, and I’ve never been happier. Give up now that you can.
The expenses back-down hasn’t been reported in the media at all. It’s because they’re now frightened of how powerful the internet is at disseminating information without their help.
I too have given up watching Newsnight…The Wark woman is like a snappy little terrier and as for sneering Paxman…arrogant sod!
Yes Blue, I too would love one of the commercial channels to create a similar programme, as long as it’s not owned by Murdoch or a bloody Russian…God help us all..what has happened to our Country…I feel we’re doomed…
Now, must off to the attic to dig out that red
flag ……If you can’t beat ‘em’, join ‘em’.
Hola Trubes!
I can’t get excited about media ownership. I don’t go for this idea that somehow the owners dictate the slant – the buyers dictate the slant. This is why I have little time for most Daily Mail readers, for it is they who tell the paper to be so bloody nasty.
If this Russian dude starts mucking around with the Standard then people will stop buying it – especially as there is so much competition from the freesheets!
BBC Radio 2 presenter on yesterday afternoon, “The judge messed up Obama’s oath.”
Now known as the Borak Broadcasting Corporation.
