As much as I hate to admit it, I really like one of the songs on Lily Allen’s new album. The song is called Him and it’s like an updated What if God Was One of Us. It’s on YouTube but it’s the lyrics that really sell the thing – particularly the opening chorus line “Ever since he can remember people have died in his good name / Long before that September / Long before hijacking planes”.
Only when the truth strikes them dumb; they confront failure, compute 42 from first principles or have lost great vision…..hang on, this sounds like I am having at go at Gordon.
No, they don’t. Anyone who ever has doubts of that sort is inherently incapable of achieving high office in the face of competition from those who are utterly single-minded, totally convinced of the rightness of their views, and completely oblivious to criticism.
As for whether He does, God knows.

I don’t think God has to be very much these days. Universe seems to run itself.
They may do, but it doesn’t last for long. They couldn’t do without their fix.
God does sit on a beach. He has found real estate more rewarding.
