One has to have followed the programme avidly to have seen the true poignancy in this. After twelve weeks of mirth it left everyone choked up.

I also liked Elton’s The Thin Blue Line. Though clearly a comedy it did manage to capture some of the humour and characters in the police service far better than the vast majority of Lynda La Plant type police thrillers.

Well done, Blue.

I remember watching that episode, realising that it was on the Thursday before Remembrance Sunday and feeling (in advance) a little uncomfortable that they intended to show a comedy programme set in the trenches at that time. They pulled it off, though, and did so magnificently.

Love that series. It’s not often a comedy series (especially a Beeb one) judges that sort of thing well, but this was masterful.
