Why does my brain insist in waking me up at 3.30-4am nearly every night? What did I do to deserve this?

A growing incidence in this phenomenon correlates with higher levels of daytime stress and late night consumption of alcohol, Blue. A change in dietary habits and consumption of slow releasing sugars, can work wonders by itself when a job change is not immediately practical.

Glad I do because for me that is lunch break. Up at 23:00, bed around 17:00 – 18:00.

Alas, you are getting older. Soon you will be inspecting the fridge at 2.00 a.m. as well. I quite enjoy my early morning muesli.

The downside of waking a couple of times a night to find the bathroom in Winter are clear, but many forget the upside – doing the best bits of this sleep stuff (going to sleep and waking up) thrice nightly.

Red wine? Telly and computers late at night? A combination of Magnesium Citrate and Omega 3 oils can help a lot. Doesn’t work immediately though.

Mate I’d hit the tabs straight away, Zopiclone aids restful sleep, but at least you’re sleeping till 4.

I think Mr Stressed and Mrs Lilith have it about right – in combination. I am wound up like a coiled spring at the moment and that combined with the enjoyment of fine red wine might just be doing me in!

Luckily I am on a fitness drive as well which helps with the physical tiredness required to sleep properly. This is an improvement on my last stress cycle of a few months ago.

there is nothing worse than trying to run your body clock with chemicals however If it gets bad then I found herbal nytol worked quite well, then if it gets really bad two paracetemol and two nurofen plus with codiene. hmmmm Sleepy sleep.

Try Gin n Tonic instead of the Red for a bit… :-) Lidl have Gordons for £10 this week…

I go to sleep at the right times – then awake 30 minutes later unable to get back to sleep again.

It’s your conscience waking you.

I was going to comment, but then discovered that you had a real life Dr (MTG) giving you advice so I knew you’d be alright.

I suspect that our friend Doctor Melvin is a beneficiary of academic quantitative easing rather than of rigorous medical training.

Good morning at a considerate threshold of hearing, Blue.
