…and it will all turn out OK! Bumps in the road, etc. but in the long run life will be perfectly adequate. Throw in the occasional flash of excitement, wonder or up-side surprise and there you have it.
2012 was a big year. I’m certain that in 2013 we will begin to feel like we have turned the corner economically. Just remember when you are pushing against a brick wall, when you feel that everything is going against you, that you live in the richest, freest society that has ever walked this Earth. If you are reading this you probably live in a city with amazing culture, interesting architecture and have access to some of the best food and drink from around the planet. Enjoy it.
Happy New Year.

I’m with you all the way in the optimism stakes although being from Liverpool I have serious doubts about my citys culture!
Ha! I went to see a play once in Liverpool so it can’t be all bad. Besides you have book shops and the internet..!
I’m sure you’re right, Blue. Though I’m a bit concerned with what Bob Crow is going to get up to next. I’m glad not to be RMT but I fear that Aslef will be drawing attention to itself too.
Happy New Year
I don’t care very much what Bob Crow does. I walk to work mostly and soon there will be driverless trains anyway! The more Crow prices his members out of the market the quicker there will be no market. See the docks industry for more information…
I can’t see it on the tube (certainly not the main line) for quite a while yet. Even where there are already ‘driverless’ trains riders are needed to deal with out-of-course incidents and running repairs, which is what a driver’s job is really about anyway. The stop-go aspect of it is a relatively small part of the training.
The saving in labour costs on ‘driverless’ trains is not total – even a small and slow Disney type system such as DLR pays its riders in the order of 27k.
As far as I’m aware the docks closed completely. Is that an option for the underground ?
Mr Crow can cause an awful lot of trouble in the meantime (I am most certainly not a fan.)
Correction: DLR riders paid 36k according to The Standard.
Will you be showing up on twitter again any time soon? いい年だったな。(ii toshi datta na – Happy New Year!)
Twitter sucks.
