If you aren’t a fan of peat…

From Cadenhead’s whisky shop:

From Springbank: Longrow Rundlets & Kilderkins 11y/o 51.7%

Nose: Smoke is easy to identify from the beginning and is soon joined with medicinal notes and subtle burning embers. On returning to nose, sweetness such as toffee.

Palate: Both peat and smoke are detected yet it is simultaneously sweet, particularly toffee and fudge. This is followed with the taste of liquorice. Rich and oily from its maturation in small casks, it gives an impression of being older than its 11 years.

Finish: Long, smooth and sweet. Slow and lingering hint of peat with peat reaching a crescendo with a strong peaty aftertaste.

…leave it for those of us who are!

I really am not a fan of peaty whisky, although I’ve tried over the years, and battled with several bottles of Laphroaig, eventually letting my neightbour finish it off!

Elder daught always buys me very old Glenfiddich every year, and this seems to be the staple one which I always return to!

So, I’m delighted to let you have my lot, Blues, and long may you cherish the thought, and the – er – aroma…

Nope, my palette just isn’t that attuned to fine whiskies; I’m stuck on Monkey Shoulder which isn’t bad for a blend (but what would I know? I put soda in it)

I have tried to get on with Islay malts over the years, but have never found one I could really enjoy – and me a Highlander! If you’re not into Speyside malts, have you ever tried Highland Park (from Orkney)? Lots of flavour and a hint of peatiness.

I also appreciate fine malts although I favour blends bought by other folk. Scotch tasting shops? My goodness.

Didn’t realise you were so into your whisky BE! If your friends at Monkey Shoulder want to invite someone from Australia’s premier whisky club to one of their next parties let them know I’m currently in the UK and available.

I’m currently thinking of a purchase but feel I need an occasion.
