If you are on Sky and look at the Travel on 251/2 see if any Swiss Railway Journeys are on. It is wonderfully relaxing in a strange kind of way.

Sounds like a great philosophy, my only "project" seems to be "finding a job" and it seems to be taking up ever increasing amounts of my time.

Like the new theme by the way.

Too late for me - the hearing in my left lughole (the one nearest the end of the barrels) is down to about 50% of that in my right. A lifetime of shooting without protectors.

On the other hand I knew I was too old for clubbing a year or so ago when I managed to fall asleep before midnight next to a 10 foot stack of speakers the bass from which had me resonating like a washing machine on full spin. My young friends have got some embarrassing pics. For the next day everyone sounded as though they were speaking to me through a yoghurt carton and piece of string, not helped by my constant admonitions to 'speak up, there'.

The first time that I managed to scare myself with hearing loss was when I was at Liverpool University at the end of the 70's.

I was a member of Eric's Club in Matthew Street and was standing next to a speaker stack that wasn't working when, halfway through a gig the speakers started working. The next morning, I couldn't hear anything.

From then on in, whenever I helped out at gigs at Liverpool University, I always wore shooting "cans" to save my hearing when I stood by the crash doors.

In later years, as I have degenerated into shooting our fast flying feathered friends, I have always worn the best possible hearing protectors that money will buy. The last set cost me over £200 but it was money well spent.

I SAID IT WAS MONEY WELL SPENT!

Have you tried noise reducing plugs Blues? Apparently, they really don't leak noise - and vice versa.

Trouble is, you can't walk wearing them as the echo from your feet nearly drowns everything else!

Other than that, I sympathise with you - it really is no joke when the slightest sound irritates beyond proportion...
